Tender Reference Response

" Stone Technical Services have undertaken a number of projects for Calderdale MBC on grade 1 and 2 listed buildings. Each one has been completed with extreme care and fastidious attention to detail. Their in-house masons and carvers are very adept at all forms of masonry repair including indents, new blocks and replacement carved details.

They are fully conversant with the use of lime mortar for re-pointing & re-bedding and have in house lead workers who are highly skilled. All their operatives are knowledgeable and have fully understood the end goals for each of the projects they have undertaken for CMBC. Where unforeseen issues occur they are always ready to put forward solutions and recommendations for discussion to ensure a cost effective solution for both building and client.

One project they undertook for CMBC was the refurbishment of Wainhouse Tower, a 275 ft stone & brick folly. This work included full re-pointing, replacement stonework, taking down & rebuilding the top corona section, carving replacement stone details and replacement of ferrous metal cramps and fixings. All this work was carried out using a mixture of rope access, cradle access, and fixed scaffolding.

Their attitude to health and safety is excellent and without compromise; their customer service is excellent

I would not hesitate to use Stone Technical Services on other projects. Their “can do” attitude and a willingness to work with clients to achieve the best end result is very refreshing.

I trust that the above is suitable however if you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact me."

"Thank you for the opportunity of offering my experience of Stone Technical Services.

I have worked with the firm for twenty years and with Dave Stone for six of them

The work you describe is their speciality. At Lumley Castle -Grade 1 - they have been our contractors for the twenty year stone restoration programme and also been employed at restoring stonework at various historic churches. In short this is exactly the exercise at which they excel. The firm's record is first rate. The staff are diligent honest and skilled. Their administration and site supervision are thorough. I have no hesitation in recommending the firm for your project.

Ray Connell
Project Architect

"Just a quick thank you for the recent works carried out. As ever, the guys have carried out the work to the highest of standards we come to expect from the company. Once again, the project was on time and to budget for which I'm most grateful. The system is far slicker to attach to than the one removed, and of course feels far safer without constant snagging. Look forward to seeing the guys at the next lightning conductor test."

Martin Fletcher
Clerk of the Works, St Paul's Cathedral

"We are writing to you as members of Barnard Castle Methodist Church, to express our thanks for the work you carried out on the Church. Since starting our project back in October 2012 your staff have experienced all aspects that the British weather had to produce. We appreciate the consideration given at times when funerals and services were being held during working hours. The level of workmanship and professionalism has been outstanding throughout the project and we are pleased to now be in a position that our building is sound and watertight.
Would you please pass on to your staff our thanks for their efforts."

"Stone Technical Services undertook two substantial renovation projects at White Lion Court and Merchant Taylor Hall in the City of London. I was extremely impressed with both the quality of the workmanship and the professionalism shown throughout the company. The projects were diverse and at times demanding, especially in terms of access. They completed the works to specification, on schedule and we are very happy with the result. I would happily recommend them for future projects."

"Stone Technical Services undertook an extensive condition survey of the exterior of the Grade 2 listed Newcastle City Pool and an adjoining Victorian school building with stone walls and slated roofs, the latter having been disused over a period of forty years or so and consequently in an extreme state of disrepair. The survey was complex and covered all aspects of the external fabric and drainage. The work was carried out efficiently and the resulting report was thorough and clearly presented, generally in the format of digital photographs with descriptions of the condition and recommendations for remedial works."

These are iconic landmarks of national significance and all are listed therefore conservation and preservation are of utmost importance combined with quality of workmanship and a reasonable cost. "I should be grateful if you would pass on to the relevant persons the thanks of the Abbey bell ringers for the recent remedial work on the spiral staircases leading to the Ringing Chamber and to the bell Chamber.

The levelling of the treads on many of the more badly worn steps has proved to be very helpful to those who have to negotiate the route regularly to ring the bells and visiting ringers have also remarked on the improvement.

Thanks again to you for your help with this matter and to all those who participated in the decision to commission the work."

John Snook

"Gary and Steve and the merry gang of Three who arrived to help on the Tuesday did a very good and tidy job. Each of them was a pleasure to meet and deal with.

"What a great report... It is welcoming to use a company who carries out work to this standard, and who's engineers take pride in what they do."

Senior Maintenance Technician

"Its good to be able to report that the Quinquennial works contract was completed on Friday 23 October, four weeks ahead of schedule and within the agreed contract cost. Stone Technical Services of Darlington executed the repair works to a particularly high standard. They were ably led on by Ian Clegg who was most helpful and cooperative in all situations. Disturbance of church activities was kept to an absolute minimum.

The most visible works were on the spire, resplendent now with its new apex stone and crowning weather vane. I am told the light colour of the stone will quickly tone down to match the adjacent stonework. The other prominent item was the repairing of the floor around the Mitford Chapel altar. The stone came from quarries near Leyburn in North Yorkshire. The original external infill stonework to the old door on the north side of the nave was crumbling and was demolished and beautifully re-built.

Day to day inspections of the works were made by Ces Maddison of architects Purves Ash. They carried out the Quinquennial inspection in 2007. Purves Ash also monitored the health and safety aspects of the full site works. Grateful thanks to all parties for the spirit of cooperation, and the essential ingrediant of a touch of humour."

Don Watson-Jones

"Stone Technical Services designed and installed a Class 1 Lightning Protection System to the CH3 Power Laboratory and adjacent substation buildings at GE Aviation, Cheltenham.
