Stone Technical Services Group Ltd were appointed by Edinburgh City Council as the principal contractor on the conservation repairs and restoration project of the Grade A listed structure and scheduled monument Cramond Old Bridge, over the River Almond.
STS completed masonry repairs including stone indents and re-pointing throughout the 3-span masonry arch bridge, including wing wall and abutments, as well as additional works including new drainage spouts and trial holes. Cramond Old Bridge is situated within a Site for Importance for Nature Conservation. All vegetation was removed from the structure and existing masonry was treated with suitably approved herbicide. Only partial closures were allowed as the carriageway is part of Scottish National Cycle Network Route 1.
The above project incorporated the introduction of pontoons to the fast-flowing rivers. This innovation is a specialism of Stone Technical Services. Allowing works to be carried out to the infrastructures to allow the non-introduction of scaffolding and more environmentally friendly procedures.
