Stone Technical Services Group Ltd were appointed by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust to carry out the annual boiler chimney inspection and maintenance regime which involves erecting steeplejack ladders to the full height of the chimney to allow for rigging of rope access equipment to enable multiple abseil descents to be carried out to take photographs and in turn the production of a condition report including details of any remedial action required.
Upon completion of the survey and submission of our completion report, STS were awarded the repairs programme. Using our inhouse steeplejack and rope access teams, ladders were erected to the full height of the chimney to allow for the installation of specialised steeplejack modular framed scaffolding to carry out remedial repairs. In addition, motorised cradle access systems were rigged and used to carry out the required repairs:
• Paint works to chimney apex smoke band and capping detail.
• Repairs to fissures within the pre-cast concrete barrel.
• Concrete repairs to the chimney capping detail following expansion of the internal iron rebar.
• Installation of additional lightning protection down tape clips to bring in line with the current British Standard.
